AI voice agents in Hindi and Indian languages

Updated · Simplibot

IN SHORT

A Hindi AI voice agent makes and answers phone calls in Hindi and other Indian languages, understands callers who mix Hindi and English, and takes actions such as booking a meeting. Humanize, Simplibot's AI voice agent, speaks 11 Indian languages on calls in India, including Hindi and Indian English, and switches language when the caller does.

Most AI voice agents are built for English first. On Indian phone lines that is a problem: callers move between Hindi and English mid-sentence, many prefer their own regional language, and an agent that only follows clean English loses them in the first few seconds. A Hindi AI voice agent, more accurately an Indian-language voice agent, is built for how people in India actually talk on the phone.

This guide explains what that takes, which languages Humanize, Simplibot's AI voice agent, speaks on calls in India, and what to test before you put one on your phone lines.

What makes an Indian-language voice agent different

Every AI voice agent listens, understands, decides, acts and speaks. Our guide to what an AI voice agent is walks through that loop. For Indian languages, three parts of it have to be built differently:

  1. Speech recognition for Indian languages and accents. Models trained mostly on American English mishear Indian names, numbers and place names. Humanize uses speech models built for Indian languages on calls in India.
  2. Mixed-language understanding. "Kal shaam ko call kar sakte ho, after six" is one sentence in two languages. The agent has to understand it as one request, not fail on half of it.
  3. A natural Indian voice. An agent that speaks Hindi with an American accent sounds wrong. Humanize speaks Indian English with an Indian accent and cadence, and replies in the caller's own language.

Languages Humanize speaks

On calls in India, Humanize speaks 11 Indian languages:

  • Indian English
  • Hindi
  • Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil and Telugu

It listens for the language the caller uses and replies in it. When a caller switches to another of these languages for a full sentence, Humanize switches with them. In the US and Canada, Humanize speaks natural North American English.

What it does on a call

Language is the entry ticket. The job is the same as in any market:

  • Following up new leads within minutes, in the language the lead answers in. See speed-to-lead.
  • Answering inbound calls from your own information, as an always-on information line. See AI receptionist.
  • Qualifying and booking: asking the same questions every time and booking a meeting on your team's Google or Outlook calendar during the call.
  • Outreach to businesses and institutions, such as inviting them to an event or a demo. See AI voice agents for education.
  • Recording every outcome: each call is recorded and transcribed, with a summary, sentiment, interest and next steps in the dashboard.

Calling hours and consent in India

Humanize has safeguards built in for calls in India:

  • it only dials between 9 AM and 9 PM India Standard Time
  • if someone asks not to be called again, in Hindi or English, it ends the call politely and adds the number to your do-not-call list
  • on outbound calls it says that it is a virtual assistant and that the call is recorded

You remain responsible for having permission to contact the people you call and for the telecom rules that apply to commercial calls in India. Ask us on a demo about your use case.

What to test before you deploy

Language support on a feature list tells you little. Before you go live, test with real callers:

  • Each language you need, with speakers from different regions, not only one accent per language.
  • Mixed Hindi and English, the way your customers actually speak.
  • Names, numbers and addresses, which are where speech recognition fails first. Humanize spells email addresses back to the caller to confirm them.
  • Switching mid-call, from English to Hindi and back.
  • Your busiest calling times, within the permitted calling window.

Frequently asked questions

Can an AI voice agent speak Hindi?

Yes. A modern AI voice agent can hold a natural phone conversation in Hindi, ask qualifying questions, answer from your own information and book a meeting, the same as it would in English. On calls in India, Humanize speaks 11 Indian languages, including Hindi and Indian English.

Does Humanize understand Hinglish?

Yes. Many callers mix Hindi and English in the same sentence, and Humanize is built to understand that rather than expecting one language at a time.

Which Indian languages does Humanize speak?

11 Indian languages: Hindi, Indian English, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil and Telugu.

Does the agent switch languages during a call?

Yes. When a caller speaks a full sentence in another supported language, Humanize switches to it and carries on the conversation in that language.

What calling hours does Humanize use in India?

Humanize only places outbound calls in India between 9 AM and 9 PM India Standard Time. If someone asks not to be called again, in Hindi or English, it ends the call politely and adds the number to your do-not-call list.

How much does it cost to use Humanize in India?

The same self-serve plans apply: $150 a month per person, with 3,000 calls a month per seat, and call time billed per answered minute, at 9¢ a minute in India.
